Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. received HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani in a landmark meeting that sealed Cebu City’s hosting rights for the 7th Asian Beach Games and affirmed the Philippines’ growing stature in Asian sport.
In a meeting that bridged sport and statecraft, President Marcos welcomed the President of the Olympic Council of Asia to discuss the deepening partnership between the Philippines and Asia’s highest sports authority. The talks covered strategies to strengthen sports cooperation and advance the Olympic movement across the continent, with both leaders aligning on a vision to elevate beach and aquatic sports in the region.


Sheikh Joaan offered his personal congratulations to President Marcos on the outstanding performance of the Philippine delegation at the Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026, underscoring the country’s competitive rise on the continental stage. He also formally extended congratulations to Cebu City on being awarded the honour of hosting the 7th Asian Beach Games in 2028, a milestone that positions the Philippines as a cornerstone of Asia’s sporting calendar.
