Doha: The Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has announced the start of the Qatar Aeronautical Academy Development Project in Ras Bu Abboud, marking a significant step in strengthening Qatar’s aviation education and training infrastructure.
The project is designed to prepare highly qualified national talent for the aviation sector while reinforcing Qatar’s position as a regional hub for aviation, education and specialised training.
Modern training facilities
The development includes the design and construction of several key facilities across the academy campus, including:
- A Flight Operations and Pilot Training Building.
- An Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Airport Operations Simulation Building.
- An Aircraft Support Services Hangar at Doha International Airport.
These facilities will provide an integrated training environment that meets leading international aviation standards.
Expanded student facilities
The project also features:
- Renovation and expansion of student accommodation to increase capacity and improve living conditions.
- A comprehensive campus master plan to optimise land use and improve movement throughout the academy.
- Upgrades to infrastructure and building systems in line with the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), including improved energy and water efficiency, enhanced indoor environmental quality, environmentally friendly construction materials and smart technologies to reduce environmental impact.
Built to international aviation standards
Engineer Dana Sulaiman Al Hammadi said the project has been designed according to the latest international standards and will enhance aviation training programmes in Qatar. She noted that the facilities are intended to meet the pilot qualification requirements of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
Construction is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Key project components
Among the major facilities are:
- A new two-storey Air Traffic Control Simulation Building covering approximately 1,902 square metres, equipped with advanced simulation and training technologies.
- A Student Activities Building spanning approximately 1,000 square metres, combining educational and recreational spaces.
- Refurbishment of student accommodation covering approximately 2,200 square metres to expand housing capacity and improve student amenities.
New aircraft maintenance hangar
A new Aircraft Support Services Hangar will also be constructed at Doha International Airport. The facility will include:
- A 2,047-square-metre aircraft hangar.
- 647 square metres of office space.
- A steel-frame structure on reinforced concrete foundations with a minimum height of 8 metres.
- Advanced ventilation systems designed to meet aircraft maintenance and operational requirements.
The hangar will house aircraft storage bays, administrative and technical offices, specialised storage areas, aircraft and avionics maintenance workshops, operations rooms, technical records facilities, and dedicated training and meeting rooms.
Ashghal said the project reflects its commitment to delivering strategic infrastructure projects that meet the highest standards of quality, safety and sustainability while supporting Qatar’s long-term development goals and strengthening infrastructure across key sectors.
