Doha: Qatar’s satellite operator Es’hailSat has announced that its third satellite, Es’hail-3, will cost approximately €295 million ($347 million) and is scheduled for launch in 2030, marking a major step in the company’s strategy to expand its satellite communications capabilities.

Next-generation communications satellite will expand Qatar’s coverage across Asia, Africa and Europe, supporting aviation, maritime, energy and secure connectivity services.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Es’hailSat Chief Executive Ali Ahmed Al Kuwari said the project will require three to four years for design, manufacturing and launch.

Unlike Es’hailSat’s previous satellites, which primarily focused on television broadcasting, Es’hail-3 will be dedicated to advanced communications services. The satellite will provide fixed and mobile connectivity, aviation and maritime communications, as well as specialised services for the oil, gas and energy sectors.

Al Kuwari said the new satellite will significantly expand Es’hailSat’s coverage across Asia, Africa and Europe, further strengthening Qatar’s position as a regional and international hub for satellite communications.

The project is being developed in partnership with Turksat, which will provide the orbital rights and frequency resources at 50° East, while Thales Alenia Space has been selected to design and manufacture the satellite.

According to Al Kuwari, Es’hail-3 will enhance the delivery of secure communications services while supporting Qatar’s long-term vision of building a knowledge-based economy and developing national expertise in the space sector. The project also reinforces the country’s commitment to advancing its digital infrastructure and expanding its presence in the global space industry.
