Mexico City: A selection of photographs from the acclaimed “After the Game” exhibition, first presented at the Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, is now on display in Mexico City as part of a new exhibition exploring the enduring legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Photographs from the acclaimed Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar exhibition highlight the human stories of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as part of the Qatar–Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture.

The photographs feature in “Journeys to Greatness: Qatar 2022 Legacy,” an exhibition presented by the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum in partnership with Mexico’s Ministry of Culture through the Centro de Cultura Digital (CCD). The exhibition forms part of the Qatar–Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, creating a cultural bridge between the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Bringing together photography, sporting artefacts and immersive multimedia storytelling, the exhibition presents football as a universal cultural experience that connects players, supporters and communities across the globe.

The selected photographs, originally showcased during the third edition of the Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, are displayed throughout key exhibition sections including “Look of the Game,” “Matches and Players,” and “Unity in Diversity.” The images spotlight the human stories behind the tournament, capturing moments of celebration, emotion, reflection and cultural exchange.

Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Abdulla Al Mulla, said the legacy of Qatar 2022 extends far beyond the action on the pitch.

“The legacy of Qatar 2022 goes beyond the players and the matches to include the fans whose experiences helped define the tournament,” he said. “This exhibition shows how those memories continue to connect people across borders while introducing visitors to Qatari and Gulf customs and traditions.”

Director of the Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, Khalifa Al Obaidli, highlighted photography’s role in preserving shared experiences.

“Photography has a unique ability to preserve emotion,” he said. “These works capture the shared human experiences that made Qatar 2022 a transformative milestone, demonstrating the tournament’s lasting cultural impact.”

The original “After the Game” exhibition was created for the 2025 edition of the Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, exploring the World Cup’s lasting legacy through the lenses of photographers documenting moments of joy, connection and reflection after the final whistle.

Running until August 9, 2026, at the Centro de Cultura Digital in Mexico City, “Journeys to Greatness: Qatar 2022 Legacy” offers visitors an interactive journey through one of football’s most memorable tournaments while celebrating the cultural ties linking Qatar 2022 with the FIFA World Cup 2026.
